Trees Please! Inc. was formed in 1999 as a Landcare group and as the hills branch of Trees For Life. Our main purpose is to repair and expand the remnant native bush at The Cedars, home of the late Sir Hans Heysen. The Cedars covers about 150 acres, and most of this was bought by Sir Hans for the sole purpose of saving the trees he loved and which feature in many of his famous paintings. Heysen was a conservationist as early as 1913, when he was a founding member of the South Australia Forest League.
One of their main objectives was to preserve as much of the remnant forest as possible, so Trees Please! Inc is following a well established objective.
We have a working bee every Monday and several times a year we hold major events to remove woody weeds and plant trees.
During the last three years, we have cleared weeds and re-vegetated about 6 acres. We have collected seed from the remnant bush at The Cedars and raised and planted just over 4,000 trees and shrubs.
At the same time we have distributed another 8,000 trees and shrubs to nearby landholders and collected seed for another 15,000 to be direct seeded along the banks of the nearby Onkaparinga river, (part of Adelaid's water supply system).
Aside from two small grants from the Mt Lofty catchment board, we are self funded and donations are tax deductible.
